The Italian club S.S.C. Napoli won the Italian league title on Thursday for the first time since 1990 after a 1-1 draw with Udinese.
Napoli’s in-from striker, Victor Osimhen, scored a second-half goal that secured the title for the Italian club.
The last time Napoli won the league was under the captaincy of legendary Diego Maradona in 1990, who passed away on November 25, 2020 in Argentina.
Napoli sealed the title with 80 points which puts them 16 points above the second-place Lazio, with five games still to play.
However, the celebrations of Napoli fans was the centre of attention since last night.
Napoli fans invaded the pitch on the final whistle where they were seen celebrating the title-win along with their players. However, the security had to clear fans from the pitch to avoid clashes with the home supporters.
Napoli's captain, Giovanni Di Lorenzo, claimed that the title belonged to every player and the people who worked hard to make their dream come true.
Meanwhile, head coach Luciano Spalletti could not control his emotions while talking to DAZN as he said, "seeing Neapolitans happy is enough to give you a sense of that joy they are feeling".
Napoli’s Osimhen is having the best season of his career where he has scored 27 goals in all competitions for the Italian club in 34 appearances, while also providing 5 assists.
"It was a very emotional moment, and I'm very happy to have contributed to it,” he said.
It must be noted that the Nigerian striker was the difference maker for Napoli as he netted 22 league goals in Serie A.
Napoli’s squad are expected to receive a warm and emotional welcome on their return to the city of Naples as they will enter the city as Champions for the first time in this century.
